Potomac 'Middle Ages' D&D is made of several groups of more mature folks, mostly in their 30s and 40s+, that meet regularly to play the Dungeons and Dragons V3.5 role-playing game. We're from the Metro Wash DC area (along the Potomac River and I-95), with most delves (sessions) held in Northern Virginia (Alexandria, Woodbridge, Stafford vicinities). Each of our Gaming Groups is different, tone set primarily by the location "Host" and the game's "DM" (dungeon master). We're about having fun and …

We are a group of writers who enjoy imaginative, perhaps even offbeat, fiction. Our goal is to write well--or at least better--but with the freedom to make mistakes. We are not here to necessarily produce polished, publishable fiction, but to rather to carve out a space where writers can experiment and have fun in a relaxed and supportive environment. Speculative fiction--which includes science fiction, supernatural horror, steampunk, dystopian fiction, magical realism, fantastic allegory, and …
The Washington Science Fiction Association, founded in 1947, is the oldest science fiction group in the greater Washington, DC, area. Our interests cover a wide range, including science fiction, science fact, fantasy, and many related fields. Each year we run Capclave, our regional science fiction convention, and we have helped sponsor worldwide conventions such as the World Science Fiction Convention and the World Fantasy Convention. Columbia Writers is a group of dedicated writers and authors from all over Maryland. While many of our members focus on YA, kidlit, and children's genres, we welcome all genres. We meet regularly to exchange critiques of our writing, collaborate on writing projects, and host workshops or author meets. As a group, we've completed one anthology and are working on a second. RSVP for one of our meets to learn more!
Welcome! This meetup aims to be a "gaming clearinghouse" of sorts for the Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC area: We want to connect players to games and games to players. To that end, we want to create and maintain meetings that get roleplayers in the same place, trying different games, meeting different people, and doing the sort of networking that forms new groups, or gets fresh blood into established ones. I try to organize at least one meeting a month (usually a one-shot game); …
Welcome to the LARP Alliance Meetup Group! We are a non-profit 501c, education and charity based corporation dedicated to promoting the art and hobby of LARP (Live Action Role Playing). In addition, we assist new and current LARPers and Events by providing information and supplying resources, transportation for players, classes, media tools, and more. As a new hub for the LARP Alliance effort, LARP Alliance Washington DC will require some time to fully realize the network of support we have est …
From Andrew: While living on the west coast, I discovered the "Geek Club", a place for all things to please the inner geek in all of us! When I moved out here, I wanted to find something like that and I started this group. Our event types are really dependent on what the members ask for. Video games, museums, boardgames, movies & book discussions, it's all fair game! The group is open to all ages, genotypes, prototypes, and even meeples! From Michael: Lived here all my life, and wanted to help …

This group fosters the development of local authors' work through honest but fair criticism; to provide encouragement and inspiration to those authors as they write and submit their work for publication; and to provide a support network for those authors. There are no fees or dues, but the Speculative Wordsmiths require a serious commitment. Members must be willing to participate fully in the group's activities, and to give as much as they receive. Strong membership participation is critical to …
ArtKlub is a group of friends who are local Northern Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, and Washington DC artists that meet weekly for fun, self-education and encouragement, and to obtain critiques and try vet new ideas. Sometimes we're pencil to paper, sometimes we're discussion and goofing off. We are there to create, inspire, and share. We help hold each other accountable to making deadlines for commissions, when asked to do so. This is not like book club, sipping tea and having intellectua …

If you are like me then you may have grown up on comics. We have also seen comics expand into movies, games, digital etc. Over the years, I have gone from DC to Marvel, currently a combination of both plus some new comers. DC has quite a few comics’ book stores, but they aren’t the places to sit back and discuss our experience. I suggest getting together at a local restaurant and having an open discussion on classic story lines and new/up to date material. Feel free to contact me if you have oth …
I spent an amazing year in Edinburgh, Scotland. While there, I was a member of a creative writing group where I met some fantastic writers. I want to start a similar group in the DC area because I know we have many great writers in the area as well. So here we are. The group brings together writers of all ages and from all walks of life. Whether you are a new writer or have published, all are welcome. If writing is your life, search for a group no longer. The format is writers will bring no mo …

This group is an by invitation-only meet-up group (you know who you are). Meant to be a place where gamers can get together and hang out with other gamers in an environment without judgements about race, creed or console.
We are the oxymoron to the geek and nerd stereotype - the "social" nerds and the "chic" geeks. Sure, we love Battlestar Galactica, but that doesn't mean we can't hold our own at a high class social function. Yes, we can debate the finer points of whether Han shot first, but we can also jump into the fray and talk about the latest in pop culture. Although we can explain the relation between a "Hobbit" and a "Halfling" to someone, it doesn't mean that we locked ourselves away from society and stud …

Are you in the Northern VA area and looking for people that share your love for MST3K, Cinematic Titanic, The Film Crew, and Rifftrax? Then this is the group for you! We get together every 2 weeks on alternating Fridays and Saturdays for a few hours worth of MST3K related stuff! We also go to E Street Cinema in DC or Angelika Mosaic in Fairfax to see The Room on the big screen. When Cinematic Titanic or Rifftrax Live comes to town, we go to see that too!
We give roleplayers the tools to find each other and manage their own campaigns and events. Event Organizer status given upon request, to help indivduals organize events and find players. Custom Forum creation also available. The Guild Reborn (originally the Silver Spring Roleplaying Guild) embodies a self-service approach. Feel free to make the most of it. If you're interested in setting up your own events, send me an email requesting Event Organizer status, and include your name as it appears …
This is a group dedicated to bringing geeky, nerdy, and super awesome people together to rejoice in our passions! I don't want to scare away non Whedon fans (if there is such a thing...), but my favorite fandoms are all from him so that's where I went with the tags. But I wouldn't limit events to that one area, we can diversify! There are a ton of amazing nerdy Meetup groups, but I was hoping to make some events closer to home in Columbia, rather than Baltimore or DC. Really, all of Howard Count …

Hello, I created this meetup to get together groups of people to watch anime series and movies while playing great board games. People can also bring their Xboxes, Wii's, and other consoles to play as well. There will be movie nights to go out and see new releases of Miyazaki film or any other Anime movies, (or any movie that fits our fancy) and just have a good time to meet new people that enjoy the same interests. I hope to see you all at the meetups!
